President of the Republic of Poland Andrzej Duda and His Spouse Agata Kornhauser–Duda were received in audience by Pope Francis. The talks focused mainly on the situation related to the war in Ukraine.
– I thanked for spiritual protection and for prayers for our country, for Poles, for Ukraine and the Ukrainian nation in this extremely difficult moment, for condemning the war – Andrzej Duda told reporters after an audience with the pope in the Vatican on Friday.
President Duda has invited Pope Francis to visit Poland. „This will not only be a meeting with the Polish people but also an ecumenical meeting with our Ukrainian guests,” President Duda said.
According to Andrzej Duda, the meeting with the pope in Poland „will surely be attended by tens of thousands or hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians staying in this country.”
Andrzej Duda said that, following Russia's invasion of Ukraine, Poland accepted a large number of war refugees from that country, and that the visit to Poland would be an opportunity for the pope to meet two nations.(PAP)
