President Bronislaw Komorowski on Mondaymet with Ruler of Dubai and United Arab Emirates Vice President and PM Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum is the highest-ranking United Arab Emirates visitor to Poland since diplomatic relations were established in 1989.
The visit included the signing of Polish-UAE agreements, among them an agreement on cooperation in tourism, a memorandum on higher education and scientific research, a letter of intent on cooperation in agriculture and food safety and a memorandum on cooperation in innovation and small and medium-sized enterprise.
The visit serves to highlight the importance of "dynamically developing bilateral relations on a political and economic level", presidential aide Jaromir Sokolowski said, adding that it would also confirm Poland's role as a major partner of the UAE in this part of Europe.
The visit was also to promote the development of contacts in defence and security, according to Sokolowski, who mentioned the accreditation of a UAE defence attache in Poland and training of UAE pilots and sailors at Polish military universities in this context.
The delegations were also to discuss increased involvement of UAE capital in the Polish economy. The UAE is Poland's main economic partner in the Persian Gulf, trade turnover between the two countries totalling USD 1.3 billion in 2014, Sokolowski underlined. (PAP, own information)
