Polish president received by Japanese Imperial couple
President Bronislaw Komorowski and Polish First Lady Anna Komorowska were received at an audience by Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko on Thursday afternoon local time, the first day of a two-day visit to Japan.
"It is nice to find that despite the enormous geographical distance between Poland and Japan, there are many elements we share, among other things in culture," President Komorowski said after the brief audience.
He added that it was good to hear the Imperial couple's opinions "revealing genuine commitment to experiencing Polish culture in Japan."
Earlier in the day the Polish president had lunch with Japanese businesspeople. "They represented leading Japanese companies, some of which already have operations in Poland," Komorowski said.
He pointed out that among Asian countries Japanese investors had invested the most in the Polish economy.
President Komorowski also presented official distinctions to three Japanese citizens in appreciation for their contribution to the development of Polish-Japanese relations. (PAP)
