MoD, Pentagon representatives to meet in Warsaw

Polish Defence Ministry officials will meet with a Pentagon representative in Warsaw next week, National Security Bureau (BBN) head Paweł Soloch told a public radio broadcaster on Saturday.

This will be the second round of talks concerning a jointly built permanent US military base in Poland, which has been dubbed "Fort Trump," Soloch explained.

As he noted, the topic of "Fort Trump", which was first picked up during the meeting of the Polish President Andrzej Duda with the President of the United States Donald Trump in Washington, has activated the Polish-US talks about the American troops' presence in Poland.

"Next week there will be a second round of detailed talks here in Warsaw," Soloch announced. "A representative of the Pentagon will come to meet officials of the Ministry of National Defence (...) These talks will also be attended by representatives of the president (Andrzej Duda - PAP), he said, adding that the meeting is to take place in the middle of the week.

"Let's wait for the results, but in our opinion things are going in the right direction," the BBN chief stressed. According to Soloch, the US troops' presence in Poland has been systematically growing.

Currently, about 4,000 American soldiers are stationed in Poland. They are part of NATO forces deployed on the Alliance's eastern flank. (PAP)
