President says national mourning should be observed for late PM
President Andrzej Duda said on Friday that a farewell to Jan Olszewski, an eminent lawyer and politician, prime minister of the government of a free and sovereign Poland, deserves appropriate respect.
Jan Olszewski died on Friday at the age of 88. He was prime minister in the years 1991-1992, a lawyer who defended anti-communist dissidents in political trials, and an adviser to President Lech Kaczyński.
President Duda stated that it necessary to observe a day of national mourning and that he and the prime minister will take appropriate official actions in this matter.
Earlier on Friday, Michał Dworczyk, the head of the PM’s office, in an interview with PAP, said that Jan Olszewski's would be given a state funeral, with full honors. (PAP)
