Presidential aide: President's UN activity confirmed Poland's position

Andrzej Duda with UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres. December 2018

President Andrzej Duda's activity on the UN forum over 2018 showed Poland's rising position and confirmed Warsaw's ability to conduct effective climate politics, Duda aide Krzysztof Szczerski said on Monday.

Krzysztof Szczerski reminded that in 2018 Duda attended three sittings of the UN Security Council, of which Poland is currently a non-standing member, and in September also attended the annual sitting of the UN General Assembly. He also mentioned Andrzej Duda's visit at the UN seat in Geneva and the UN Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) in Rome, where he delivered an address on World Food Day as the first-ever Polish state head.

According to Krzysztof Szczerski, President's involvement on the UN platform confirmed Poland's international standing and ability to conduct an active climate policy. "The President's above-standard activity on the UN forum shows Poland's rising prestige and our ability to conduct effective climate politics," he said.

Krzysztof Szczerski also recalled Andrzej Duda's activity at the recent COP24 climate summit in Katowice, and his share in the conference's final declaration. Dubbed the Katowice Package, the document maps out the implementation of the 2015 Paris Agreement on greenhouse emission mitigation.(PAP)
