Europe, Polish affairs, Ukraine and the refugee crisis were among the topics discussed by Pope Francis and Polish President Andrzej Duda at a Monday papal audience granted to the Polish state head. Andrzej Duda was on his first Vatican visit as president of Poland.

President Duda told reporters after the meeting that the talks covered the situation in Europe, including Poland, Ukraine and the current refugee crisis. He added that the pope, who is expected to attend next year's World Youth Day in Poland, declared his wish to visit Poland's main Catholic sanctuary Czestochowa and the site of the wartime Nazi death camp Auschwitz.

Asked about his impressions from the meeting with Francis, Duda said the pope was "very calm and emanated goodness". He added that in the refugee problem the pope advocated "to do good in the broad sense" and stressed that the world and Europe today "were very much in need of goodness and values".
