The programme of President Andrzej Duda's Monday visit to the Vatican includes an audience with Pope Francis.
During their visit to the Vatican, President Andrzej Duda and his wife are to meet with Pope Francis at an audience on Monday morning, followed by a meeting with Vatican Secretary of State Pietro Parolin.
"The visit also has a diplomatic aspect. Pope Francis currently shows a personal interest in a great many topics from world politics. The synod on families ended recently. There is also the issue of migration, sustainable development policies. All this will be the subject of the talks at the Vatican", presidential minister Krzysztof Szczerski told PAP on Friday.
"There is also the aspect of relations between Poland and the Catholic Church. Next year there will be two very important events. First, there is World Youth Day. This is socially the greatest international event to be held in Poland, and it will be attended by Pope Francis. It is an obvious topic of these talks", minister Szczerski outlined.
"We also have the 1,050th anniversary of Poland's baptism. This, too, is a very important element of state-Church relations", he added.
Szczerski also said that President Duda had spoken to Italian President Sergio Mattarella. "He will not be in Rome due to other obligations. There will be a separate visit to Italy", Krzysztof Szczerski explained.
