"President expects responsible gov't decision on refugees"

Polish President Andrzej Duda expects the government to reach a responsible decision on the matter of refugees, presidential aide Krzysztof Szczerski said in Eisenach, Germany, on Monday.
"Above all the president expects a responsible decision from Prime Minister Ewa Kopacz and the government", Szczerski said when asked about President Duda's opinion on what Poland should agree to with regard to refugee quotas.
He said that answers needed to be found to three problems: asylum policy, humanitarian aid and how Poland can contribute to solving the problem at the source of the crisis. Szczerski added that the Polish president expected consistent, firm and responsible answers from the Polish government and European partners.
Asked about the number of refugees that Poland should take in according to the president, Szczerski said that he would not offer any advice but that the Polish government had chosen the wrong negotiation strategy and was "on the defensive all the time in the European political forum".
The Polish authorities should respond to the migration crisis as citizens expect them to, and this is the reaction that should be communicated to Poland's European partners, according to President Duda's aide.
President Andrzej Duda on Monday started a two-day visit to Germany to attend the 11th meeting of presidents of member states of the Arraiolos group in Erfurt and Eisenach on September 21-22. (PAP)
