Polish President Andrzej Duda and his Afghan counterpart Ashraf Ghani discussed cooperation between Afghanistan and NATO in Warsaw on Friday, hours before a two-day NATO summit in Poland's capital.

"President Ashraf Ghani thanked President Duda for extending the training mission of Polish soldiers in Afghanistan. Both (presidents) stressed that the Polish troops in Afghanistan were assigned training and advisory tasks and will not take part in any direct combat," Polish presidential minister Krzysztof Szczerski said.

The talk also focused on the internal situation in Afghanistan and on the country's future, stability and required economic reforms. The two heads of state also discussed cooperation between Poland and Afghanistan, particularly in defence, Krzysztof Szczerski reported.

On Saturday, the second day of the summit, the Polish president will meet the Latvian and Ukrainian presidents and the British prime minister.
