Andrzej Duda's White House talks to focus on US military presence in Poland

Krzysztof Szczerski, head of the President's Office

The signing of a number of agreements dealing with increased US military presence in Poland, energy, new medical techniques and commercial cooperation, will be the highlight of President Andrzej Duda's official visit to the US starting on Wednesday.

The visit will start off with Duda-Trump White House talks to focus on the US military presence in Poland, Krzysztof Szczerski, head of the Polish President's Office, told a Monday press conference.

Minister Szczerski noted that following the conclusion of talks on the US military presence in Poland, chiefly held by the Polish Defence Ministry and US Pentagon officials, the final decision whether the results of the negotiations are satisfactory to both sides rests with the two presidents.

The two presidents are expected to announce their decision on June 12, said Krzysztof Szczerski.

The minister added that the proposed agreement includes two elements, a general political declaration on mutual allied obligations and guarantees, and a second element focusing on details and to "include components of what the (Polish) president termed in short Fort Trump during his previous US visit."

Krzysztof Szczerski assured that the US presence will be increased both in terms of quantity and quality.

The day after the White House engagement, Andrzej Duda's economic visit to the United States commences, which will last until June 17. During it, Duda will first visit Houston, Texas. Talks are to cover energy agreements, including the development of cooperation in the gas and other energy sectors.

While in Texas, President Duda is expected to meet with representatives of the biggest energy sector companies in the US. President Duda and US Energy Secretary Rick Perry are also to take part in a large energy forum in Houston.

In the remaining days, Andrzej Duda will visit Nevada and California, where he will meet with representatives of technology giants, including Google and YouTube. He will also hold talks on new technologies and Polish-American cooperation in the IT sector. (PAP)
