Bucharest Nine defence ministers continued their stay in Poland on Friday. On Thursday evening, they attended a gala dinner hosted by President Andrzej Duda.

"The president stressed that the unity showed by the Bucharest Nine is an element which helps build unity within NATO," Soloch said.

The Bucharest Nine countries comprise Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Romania, Slovakia and Poland.

Soloch praised the fact that the meeting was also attended by the representative of the US Defence Secretary to Europe, Richard B. Landolt. "This shows the significance of the Bucharest Nine to NATO and trans-Atlantic relations," he said.

The head of the BBN added that Thursday's meeting focused on the security of the alliance's south-eastern flank, concerning the countries of Romania and Bulgaria, and NATO's moves aimed at ensuring security of the Black Sea. It also pertained to joint exercises and defence spending, which should reach at least 2 percent GDP. (PAP)
