As part of the Polish-Hungarian Friendship Day, Polish President Andrzej Duda and his Hungarian counterpart János Áder took part among others in a Holy Mass concelebrated in both languages on Saturday at the Cathedral Basilica in Kielce, southern Poland.

Polish-Hungarian Friendship Day, declared by the parliaments of both countries, has been observed, alternately in Poland and Hungary, since 2007. This year's observances are being held in Poland's southern city of Kielce.

Before the celebrations, the presidents laid flowers at the Smolensk plaque commemorating the 96 victims of the plane crash in which dozens of senior government and military officials died including then President Lech Kaczyński, in Smoleńsk, western Russia, on April 10, 2010.

The Holly Mass was concelebrated jointly by the president of the Hungarian Catholic Bishops' Conference, Andras Veres, and Polish bishop Jan Piotrowski.

After the Holy Mass, the presidents unveiled a bust of the eminent Hungarian composer Bela Bartok at the Square of the Grey Ranks on the Walk of Fame. The politicians lit candles at the monument of the Grey Ranks commemorating the scouts who lost their lives fighting for Poland's independence.

Andrzej Duda and János Áder also took part in the Polish-Hungarian youth handball friendship tournament and handed the cups to the team leaders after the game. The best players were awarded by Deputy Sport Minister Anna Krupka and Katowice Mayor Bogdan Wenta.

Polish-Hungarian Friendship Day has been launched on Friday.

Cooperation on gas forwarding projects and Brexit dominated Friday's talks between Hungarian and Polish Presidents János Áder and Andrzej Duda on the sidelines of the Polish-Hungarian Friendship Days event in Kielce, southeastern Poland.

Andrzej Duda told a press conference after the talks that he and Áder had discussed their countries' cooperation in the Visegrad Group (the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Poland) and partnership on gas infrastructure construction within the Three Seas format, the expansion of the Via Carpathia trans-national motorway network from Lithuania to Greece, and the approaching Three Seas summit in Slovenia.

The Three Seas initiative groups the countries lying between the Adriatic, Black and Baltic seas.

President Duda added that his talks with Ader also covered the May European Parliamentary elections, NATO and EU affairs, Brexit, and trans-Atlantic ties.

On Friday Polish President decorated János Áder with the Order of the White Eagle, Poland's oldest and highest state distinction. (PAP)
