Krzysztof Szczerski – Secretary of State
Krzysztof Szczerski was born on 15 April 1973 in Kraków. In 1997, he earned an MA in political science from the Jagiellonian University, and in 2001, a PhD degree from the Institute of Political Sciences and International Relations, Jagiellonian University. In 2010, he submitted his postdoctoral dissertation entitled "The Dynamics of the European System," which won the award of the Prime Minister. In 2013, he was employed as an associate professor at the Jagiellonian University in Kraków.
Mr Szczerski cooperated with the Office of the Prime Minister (1998-2001) and served as adviser to the Minister of Health in the area of the European integration, regional health policy and health care systems (1999-2000).
In the years 2007-2008, he served as Undersecretary of State in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and in the Office of the Committee for European Integration. Member of the Civil Service Council to the Prime Minister (2009-2010) and a deputy to the Sejm (2011-2015).
In January 2015 appointed as representative of the Polish Parliament in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.
Since 7 August 2015 he has served as Secretary of State at the Chancellery of the President of the Republic of Poland. From 4 April 2017 to 4 January 2021 he was Chief of the Cabinet of the President of the Republic of Poland. On 4 January 2021, President Andrzej Duda entrusted him with the function of the Plenipotentiary of the President of the Republic of Poland for the establishment of the International Policy Bureau of the President of the Republic of Poland.
Since 2000, he has worked as an academic teacher at the Chair of Modern Political Systems of the Institute of Modern Political Science, Jagiellonian University. He worked as an assistant professor at WSB-NLU (WSB-National Louis University) in Nowy Sącz and served two terms as Deputy Director of the Institute of Political Sciences and International Relations, Jagiellonian University. In 2008-2009 Mr Szczerski lectured at the National School of Public Administration, Jagiellonian University. He earned the title of professor of social sciences in 2018. Currently he lectures at the Diplomatic Academy in Warsaw and is member of the Council of the Polish Institute of International Affairs.
Krzysztof Szczerski holds a number of foreign distinctions: the Order of the Lion of Finland, the Order of Merits to Lithuania, the Order of the Madara Horseman, Grand Cross of the Royal Norwegian Order of Merit, the Order of Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk, Grand Cross of the Order of Leopold II.
Mr Szczerski speaks fluent English and French.
