Polish President meets Israeli Prime Minister

Lech Kaczyński and Benjamin Netanyahu, the Prime Minister of Israel

At the Presidential Palace this afternoon, Lech Kaczyński, the President of the Republic of Poland, met with Benjamin Netanyahu, the Prime Minister of Israel, who was visiting Poland to celebrate the 65th anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz concentration camp and the city of Oświęcim.

During the meeting, they discussed the excellent condition of the bilateral relations between Poland and Israel in light of the coming 20th anniversary of the diplomatic relations being renewed between them. They also agreed that there is some potential to develop these relations even further, especially in the areas of science, technology, the defence industry, and relations linking the societies of the two countries, especially of the youth.

Kaczyński and Netanyahu also discussed the current situation and the chances of peace in the Middle East. The Polish President claimed that Poland continues to support the existence of two separate states – a Palestinian one and a Jewish one. Also, it was stressed that Iran should unconditionally comply with the provisions of the resolution of the United Nations Security Council concerning the Iranian nuclear programme.
