Polish and Estonian presidents meet
On 7th December, in Belvedere, the President of Poland, Lech Kaczyński, had a working lunch with the President of the Republic of Estonia, Toomas Hendrik Ilves.
During the meeting the two presidents discussed bilateral relations between their countries and issues connected with international and regional security – in particular, the issue of energy security of the EU and the principle of solidarity. They emphasized that within NATO and the EU, bilateral cooperation is very good. Both parties stated that they have similar opinions on key issues of the European agenda and the most important international issues (eastern policy, NATO, Afghanistan). Another topic discussed was the situation in the Caucasus region, and in particular in Georgia.
Meeting the President of Poland was the last stop on the Estonian President’s itinerary. During his visit, he also took part in the opening ceremony of the new 2009-2010 academic year in the College of Europe in Natolin.
