On 8 January 2007, Chief of the Polish Presidential Chancellery Aleksander Szczygło received the Japanese Ambassador to the Republic of Poland, Ryuichi Tanabe. The meeting focused on bilateral relations between Poland and Japan. The visit was a courtesy call.

The Ambassador pointed to the very good relations enjoyed by our two countries, emphasised the growing volume of investment by Japanese companies in Poland and mentioned the forthcoming 50th anniversary of the re-establishment of diplomatic relations between Poland and Japan. He stressed that he was anxious to see an intensification of mutual dialogue in various areas, including in the form of a strategic partnership.

Minister Szczygło emphasised that Poland had been following with appreciation the steadily growing Japanese activity in international relations, and in particular the contributions made by Japan to stabilising post-conflict regions. He also pointed to Polish-Japanese cooperation in development assistance serving to promote democracy and economic transformations.
