Barbara Fedyszak-Radziejowska

Doctor Barbara Fedyszak-Radziejowska, born on 11 October, 1949,  in Chorzow; a graduate of the University of Warsaw, majoring in ethnography (1972), in 1993 obtained a doctoral degree in sociology at the Institute of Philosophy and Sociology of the Polish Academy of Sciences.


In the years 1973-1984, Ms Fedyszak-Radziejowska worked as a researcher and academic teacher at the Institute of Economic and Social Sciences of the Warsaw University of Technology. From 1987 to 2013, she was a researcher at the Institute of Rural and Agricultural Sciences of the Polish Academy of Sciences, and in parallel in the years 1994-2012, she lectured at the Faculty of Administration and Social Sciences of the Warsaw University of Technology. She participated in the research on and published articles and books about rural communities, particularly farmers, their work ethos, attitudes towards the EU, rural entrepreneurship and social capital of the Polish rural areas.  Also system of values in the Polish society at large comes into the focus of her research interests, including attitudes towards family,  attitude towards life seen as a value, towards faith and the Catholic Church. She has participated in scholarly projects and published papers in the Institute of Public Affairs and the Centre for Thought of John Paul II.


Since 1980, Ms Fedyszak-Radziejowska had been a member of the "Solidarity" trade union. In the years 1982-1988, she was leading works undertaken by the group of sociologists who called themselves “The Armenia team” who run  expert analyses for the Regional Executive Committee of “Solidarity” Mazowsze Region, focusing on the attitudes and sensitivities of people belonging “Solidarity” underground structures. In her capacity of the Head of the Team, Ms Fedyszak-Radziejowska participated in the years 1985-1986 in the preparations for the first ever Interim Conference of the Underground Solidarity (the project which was abandoned in 1986 following the arrest of Zbigniew Bujak).


In the period from 1984-1987, Ms Fedyszak-Radziejowska worked as a columnist ( nome de guerre LKS) in the underground monthly magazine "Arka" published in Lodz. Since 1989  she has been a member, President / Vice President of the in-house “Solidarity” chapter in the Institute of Rural and Agricultural Sciences of the Polish Academy of Sciences.


In 2007-2011, a member of the Council of the Institute of National Remembrance , since April 2010 worked as its President. She was member of the Council for Rural Areas and Agriculture, advising Presidents of Poland : Lech Walesa and Lech Kaczynski, respectively.



She was awarded the Officer's Cross of the Order of Rebirth of Poland Polonia Resituta ( 2009), and is a  2010 laureate of the Prize of the Bishop Roman Andrzejewski Foundation “Solidarna Wieś”. As a columnist, Ms Fedyszak-Radziejewska regularly works for the weekly "Gość Niedzielny", bimonthly "Arcana"  and weekly "W Sieci" .
