On the 26th of May 2004 the President of Poland Aleksander Kwaśniewski and the President of the United States George W. Bush spoke over the telephone. Referring to his previous Monday statement, Mr. George W. Bush discussed the policy towards Iraq with the President of Poland. The presidents agreed on the necessity to transfer the power to the Iraqi Interim Government on the 30th of June, to pass the United Nations’ new resolution on Iraq and to get bigger international support for the process of stabilisation in Iraq. The presidents stressed the importance of the forthcoming NATO Summit in Istanbul and the need to enhance the role of NATO in the stabilisation process in Iraq and also the question of Ukraine participation in the Summit. The presidents discussed the issues of bilateral relations. Mr. Bush expressed the necessity of the greater involvement of the Polish enterprises in the reconstruction of Iraq.
