Good Polish-German relations are an opportunity for Poland to strengthen its position in the EU, Polish President Bronislaw Komorowski said in Berlin on Wednesday.

President Komorowski on Wednesday met with his German counterpart Joachim Gauck, Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier and Bundestag President Norbert Lammert.

The Polish head of state, who lost his presidency to conservative newcomer Andrzej Duda, expressed hope that his successor would also be an advocate of good Polish-German relations.

"Good, friendly relations with Germany are a great opportunity to strengthen Poland's position and role in the EU," Komorowski said, adding that this translated into the EU's eastern, security and budget policies.

Referring to Wednesday's talks, Komorowski said they were dominated by the EU's eastern policy and the situation in Greece.

"Everyone expects the Greek side to present some new proposals of a way out," the Polish president said. This solution "should end the euro zone crisis and should not increase the risk of demoralising the EU as a whole."

The Berlin trip was Komorowski's last foreign visit as president. (PAP)
