Poland has aspirations and ambitions to represent the interests of Central Europe in the EU and NATO, President Bronislaw Komorowski said during the GLOBSEC 2015 summit in Bratislava on Saturday.

We should assume that negative changes in the security environment of the EU and NATO are lasting and we should draw the proper conclusions, the president said during a panel on Eastern Europe's mission in Ukraine.

President Putin was dreaming about dividing the EU and NATO and we should respond with strong emphasis on solidarity, Komorowski noted.

"Poland wants to speak about problems of the East because this is our neighbourhood," he went on. "Today Central Europe should make efforts to strengthen NATO as the guarantor of our security and to strengthen European integration."

Central European nations should support Ukraine's independence and help strengthen it by supporting reforms, Bronislaw Komorowski opined.

GLOBSEC conferences have been held each year since 2005. This year's debates centre on Ukraine and its European future and the NATO summits in Wales in 2014 and in Warsaw in 2016.

President Komorowski had meetings with other participants in the GLOBSEC summit, the presidents of Macedonia, Estonia and Georgia. (PAP)
