The President of the Republic of Poland meets the President of the European Council
The President of the Republic of Poland, Lech Kaczyński, met the President of the European Council, Herman Van Rompuy.
They discussed the progress of the implementation of the Lisbon Treaty, relations between the permanent President of the European Council and the rotating Presidency as well as Poland’s preparedness to take up the Presidency of the Council of the EU in the second half of 2011.
They also discussed the challenges that the European Union is facing in the near future, in particular the work on a new economic strategy for 2010-2020, effective and transparent implementation of the Lisbon Treaty and the continuation of climate change negotiations, all taking account of the differences in economic and social development of EU member states.
