President: We support the territorial integrity of Georgia
President Lech Kaczyński assured Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili on Tuesday at a joint briefing that Poland supports the “cast-iron principle” of Georgian territorial integrity. President Saakashvili in turn thanked Poland for its “political support”.
“Georgia is still an integral country,” emphasized Lech Kaczyński. The Russian-Georgian conflict of August 2008, he stressed, consisted of actions which “violated this integrity”. “We support the cast-iron principle, the only one that can maintain peace and stability – the principle of territorial integrity of free countries such as Georgia”, said the Polish President.
The Georgian President in turn thanked Poland for its “political support”. “Poland gave its strong support and understanding for the situation in Georgia”, underlined Saakashvili. “Georgia has survived, it sets an example”, he said, and Russia did not defeat it.
Saakashvili came to Warsaw on a short working visit. On Wednesday he laid a wreath at the grave of the priest, Jerzy Popiełuszko.
