Polish and Latvian presidents for cooperation in energy
Polish and Latvian Presidents Bronislaw Komorowski and Andris Berzins believe that closer economic cooperation with special emphasis on energy can consolidate relations between Poland and Latvia.
President Komorowski recalled that bilateral trade totalled EUR 1 billion in 2011.
"I was really glad to hear that the Latvian president would support joint ventures in energy infrastructure, gas transmission and electricity, to include not only Poland and Lithuania, but also Latvia and maybe Estonia," President Komorowski stressed.
The Polish president said that it was very important for our region to coordinate security policy. "We discussed how to coordinate positions of Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland (...) for a NATO summit in Chicago in May," he added.
President Berzins stressed Poland and Latvia had similar opinions on many issues. "This will surely help our countries and the entire EU," he said.
Speaking about energy the Latvian president stressed its significance for the EU and added that Poland's policy in this field was far-sighted. "Latvia supports Poland's energy policy," he said and declared Latvian support for Poland's efforts in this field. (PAP)
