Latvian president visits Poland
President Bronislaw Komorowski met Latvian President Andris Berzins during a ceremony of handing over two Latvian historical art objects that found their way to Poland during WWII. The ceremony was held at the Royal Castle in Warsaw on Thursday.
"All nations and all people long for order which includes bringing back things to their proper places after periods of great historic turmoil," said Komorowski. "This occasion attests to excellent relations between Poland and Latvia," said president Berzins.
The historic late Renaissance candlestick originates from the St.Peter's Lutheran church in Riga, while the pulpit belongs to the Holy Trinity church in Yelgava. The objects were displaced to Poland during the last world war and were kept in the Wloclawek cathedral and the National Museum in Poznan, respectively.
In the course of his two-day visit president Berzins will hold talks with Komorowksi, PM Donald Tusk and visit Krakow, among other things. (PAP)
