President Bronislaw Komorowski wished representatives of national and ethnic minorities living in Poland satisfaction from a friendly neighbourhood during a New Year meeting on Tuesday.

The president stressed that minorities had for years created Poland's culture and society. Komorowski underlined that his family had its roots in the former Polish eastern lands - "in a former mosaic of the Republic of Poland where different nations, cultures and customs used to coexist next to each other and which until to date are an important point of reference while thinking of the past."

Bronislaw Komorowski added that no community requires homogeneity. "Community requires a sense of a common goal, ability to cooperate, understand and respect others who function as part of it," the president added.

President Komorowski stressed that homeland is the community that binds all its members together but emphasized the importance of a family as a community because it teaches its members loyalty to tradition, understanding and pride of its past and identity as well as openness to others and the need for understanding them, the president explained.
