On 22-23 September 2011, President Bronisław Komorowski and the First Lady Anna Komorowska visited New York.

On Thursday morning, the President opened a New York Stock Exchange session. He also talked to NYSE President Duncan L. Niederauer. - A meeting at the New York Stock Exchange is an excellent opportunity to present our achievements, our good economic situation, the President said. He expressed hopes that Polish-US economic cooperation would strengthen political cooperation between the two countries. - We are hoping to see cooperation between Warsaw’s and New York’s stock exchanges, Bronisław Komorowski said.

The high point of the Polish President’s visit to New York was his participation in the 66th session of the United Nations General Assembly and his meeting with UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon. See also: President of the Republic of Poland Bronislaw Komorowski addresses the General Assembly

Bronisław Komorowski offered assurances that Poland supported Palestinian-Israeli dialogue. He said that the Polish Presidency of the Council of the European Union had also been discussed during his meeting with the UN Secretary General. He added that it was his great satisfaction to represent a country ‘which was universally regarded as an interesting country, a country enjoying growth, a country of successful people’.

The President also met with the Ukrainian President, Viktor Yanukovych. - I am seeking to stay in dialogue and in contact with President Yanukovych all of the time, Bronisław Komorowski assured Polish journalists. He added that their contacts mostly concerned Ukraine’s European prospects.

On Thursday evening, President Bronisław Komorowski met with the Polish community in New York and decorated its prominent members.

Together with the minister of culture, Bogdan Zdrojewski, the President attended a repatriation ceremony for two Julian Fałat paintings, ‘The Battue Hunt at Nieśwież’ and ‘Before Going Hunting in Rytwiany’. The paintings went missing during the Second World War. Their return to Poland was made possible due to a New York court ruling of 16 August. The paintings will soon be repatriated to Poland in accordance with a special procedure; they will be placed in Warsaw’s National Museum.

On Friday, Bronisław Komorowski met over luncheon with representatives of the Jewish community.

He also talked to the President of the Polish American Congress, Frank Spula.

As he said, the proposals concerning US visas for Poles that have been submitted to the American Congress seem to have chances of success, and of ‘major success, too’. - One needs to support this proposal, he added.

- I believe it is in everybody’s interest to close this issue, unnecessarily spoiling Polish-US relations, as soon as possible, Bronisław Komorowski said.
