Presidential meeting to mark the 20th anniversary of the founding of the Visegrad Group
Topics such as nuclear energy, economic crisis in the EU, and others, were visited in a discussion of Presidents of Poland, Hungary, Czech Republic and Slovakia during their meeting in Budapest on Saturday, October 8.
Bronisław Komorowski, Pal Schmitt, Vaclav Klaus and Ivan Gasparovic participated in a meeting hosted in the Hungarian capital to mark the 20th anniversary of the founding of the Visegrad Group: V4.
At the press conference, questions were asked about a possibility of transferring to the EU more of the member states’ powers in view of the economic crisis.
- A way out from the crisis in the EU is by enhancing European integration, sought to explain President Bronisław Komorowski. He also added that it is important to maintain perspectives for EU further enlargement and pointed out that crisis phenomena do not derive from the Community enlargement process.
- Crisis reared its ugly head in the euro zone countries as well (...). Our conscience is clear, we can even go as far as exporting our good ideas and our persuasion that economic recovery and reinstatement of sound economic policy is within our reach, President Komorowski maintained.
Moreover, Bronisław Komorowski emphasised that influencing EU cohesion policy and energy solidarity remains to be one of great challenges in store for V4. He also expressed his hope that Poland, Hungary, Czech Republic and Slovakia will effectively build their Central European identity, or even more, their Central European patriotism. – This is a challenge which may be conducive in our effort to find our own place within European integration, he argued.
