He was a devoted friend of Poland
President Lech Kaczyński sent to the President of the United States of America, Mr George W. Bush, a letter of condolence in connection with the passing away of Nicholas Andrew Rey.
The message runs as follows:
”Dear Mr President,
I was saddened to receive the news about the sudden passing away of Nicholas Andrew Rey, the former Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States to the Republic of Poland and a meritorious activist of the American Polonia.
We shall remember Nicholas A. Rey as a great American patriot and a devoted friend of Poland. In 1993-1997, when Mr Rey was US Ambassador to Poland, he ardently supported our entry to NATO. He was personally persuading Congressmen to give consent to the enlargement of the North Atlantic Alliance to include Poland. He was also a co-founder and a prominent activist of the American Polish Consultative Council.
In recognition of his meritorious services to Poland, he was awarded a Commander Cross with Star of the Order of Merit of the Republic of Poland.
I share the grief and mourning of the Bereaved Family and Friends. Indeed, this is a great loss to us, Poles, as well.
