President: The success of the Polish delegation

“During the EU summit, the Polish delegation has achieved all of its intended aims,” Lech Kaczyński said during a press conference, held jointly for the President and Donald Tusk, the Prime Minister, summarising the meeting of the European Union leaders. The President emphasized that the leaders of the EU states have agreed to allot additional funds – EUR 600 million – to the Eastern Partnership which was created on Poland’s initiative. Lech Kaczyński remarked that the funding for this purpose has been significantly increased; additionally, greater freedom in terms of visas and of crossing borders in the case of countries participating in the Eastern Partnership has become an aim, albeit a long-range one. The President also claimed that, from the perspective of Poland, the division of funds being a part of the programme for stimulating the economy of the EU – a programme worth EUR 5 billion – is beneficial. “As for the matters related to energy safety,” said Lech Kaczyński, “we have achieved virtually all of the intended aims, especially with regard to the joint system for countering the crisis.”

The President also emphasized that José Barroso, the President of the European Commission, and Benita Ferrero-Waldner, the European Commissioner for External Relations and European Neighbourhood Policy, are favourable with regard to the Polish proposals.
