President takes command of the army
On Sunday, President Bronisław Komorowski took command of the Armed Forces. On the celebration day of the Polish Army, a ceremonial changing of the guard and a Parade of Remembrance took place before the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
The President participated in the celebrations before the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Warsaw and granted general’s nominations and promotions. He honoured the late president Lech Kaczyński and all those linked to the army who died in the Smolensk disaster.
In his speech the President stressed that our membership of NATO and the European Union gave reasons to feel secure and optimistic: “I am aware that alliances and other external pillars of our security are indeed very important. However, the efforts of the whole nation, every state institution and each individual citizen still remain the most important”.
