The presidents of Poland and the Czech Republic meet at Śnieżka Mountain
"Thank you for this political-tourist summit," President Bronisław Komorowski said after his meeting with Václav Klaus, President of the Czech Republic, which took place at the highest peak in the Karkonosze Mountains.
President Komorowski, accompanied by Grzegorz Schetyna, the Marshal of the Sejm, among others, arrived at the peak several minutes before Václav Klaus. He welcomed the Czech president by saying: "This one really is a summit meeting."
The two presidents visited the chapel of Saint Lawrence and then proceeded to a meeting at a hostel on the Czech side of the border. "These talks went very well," Komorowski concluded.
After the meeting, the two politicians attended a holy mass for mountain rescuers and guides. The mass at Śnieżka was presided over by Stefan Cichy, the bishop of Legnica, and Archbishop Dominik Duka, the Primate of the Czech Republic. The service is delivered every year on the day of Saint Lawrence – the patron saint of guides and rescuers in the Sudety. More than a thousand pilgrims took part in the mass – coming to Śnieżka from Karpacz.
