President-elect honours the insurgents
Today at noon, Bronisław Komorowski, the president-elect, attended the ceremonial changing of the guard of honour at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and then laid a wreath at the monument.
He honoured the insurgents at W-hour at the Gloria Victis monument in the Powązki Military Cemetery.
The ceremony at the Gloria Victis ("glory to the vanquished") monument is the conclusion of Sunday's commemoration of the 66th anniversary of the start of the Warsaw Uprising.
At 17.00 sharp, when the sirens of the city sounded, those attending the ceremony at the cemetery stood to attention to honour the heroes of the Warsaw Uprising with a minute’s silence. The attending military band present played the Polish national anthem.
