During his presidency George H. W. Bush pursued a policy which led to a breakthrough in Europe, and for this we owe him our thanks, President Andrzej Duda told reporters in Washington.

Andrzej Duda, in Washington for Bush's funeral, said his presence at the 41st US president's funeral had an official and a personal aspect, as he remembered his visit to Poland in 1987.

President Duda reminded that Bush continued the preceding Ronald Reagan administration's policy, which instigated the fall of communism in Eastern Europe.

"During his presidency President George H. W. Bush continued this policy, and for this we owe him thanks," Andrzej Duda said.

Former Polish President Lech Wałęsa was on board the plane that Andrzej Duda was flying on.
