The President noted that Germany is Poland's largest trade partner.

President Duda thanked his German counterpart for the opportunity of marking the 100th anniversary of regaining independence by Poland also in Berlin.

Andrzej Duda also said that Poland believes the Nord Stream 2 pipeline planned by Russia and Germany will disrupt future energy relations in Europe and will put several Central European countries in a difficult situation.

He stressed that there are subjects in which Poland and Germany have divergent views on energy security. "We definitely think that the investment, which is the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, should not be implemented," he said.

"We believe that future energy relations in Europe will deteriorate at the moment when gas will be supplied to the European Union by this gas pipeline, that it causes dominance by one supplier in the European market, and above all puts at least several Central European countries in a difficult situation in terms of energy security," The Polish President argued.

As he added, "we absolutely uphold our completely negative opinion about this investment". "We are surprised that the European institutions, such as the European Commission, has not taken a clear negative stance, that there has not been any change in this matter, including the energy directive," Andrzej Duda said.

"We insist it is a project of a political and strategic nature, not a business one, and it is difficult for us to understand it, we do not see the solidarity that is needed here," the Polish President concluded.

Later in the day, President Andrzej Duda is scheduled to meet Chancellor Angela Merkel. (PAP)
