The Polish airborne mission against the Islamic State is a special kind of service, and a new experience. By undertaking the mission, Poland is showing that it is a reliable NATO ally, President Andrzej Duda told Polish troops in Kuwait on Thursday.

Andrzej Duda, on a visit to Kuwait, met with Polish troops serving on the Inherent Resolve mission against the Islamic State.

"Here in Kuwait you are fulfilling (...) our alliance obligations, for which we are immensely grateful," President Duda told the soldiers.

Andrzej Duda observed that such missions provided soldiers with valuable experience, which could later prove useful during other operations and was "priceless" from the point of view of Poland's security.

Pilots gain experience with long flights, six-hour missions on which planes are fuelled in mid-air and pilots carry out reconnaissance work. This way, they gather vast experience, the president said.

President Duda observed that the Polish air patrols took place over Iraq, and stressed that Poland's participation in Inherent Resolve showed Poland as a reliable NATO ally. He added that the country's involvement in such missions was among the reasons why NATO forces were stationed in Poland.

"We are showing that we are a reliable NATO ally, that we can offer others security and support. This is one of the reasons why NATO forces are stationed in our country," Andrzej Duda said.

The President also wished the soldiers a Merry Christmas. (PAP)
