President to discuss judicial reforms with parliamentarians

President Andrzej Duda has invited all party leaders to Wednesday talks on his proposals of reforming Poland's Supreme Court and National Council of the Judiciary.

At the Wednesday debates each party delegation will be granted a 60-minute session with the president, during which it will present its opinions on the presidential proposals, and its own concepts for reforming the judiciary bodies.

President Duda promised to prepare his reforms of the court and council having vetoed two government bills reforming the two bodies last July.

The ruling party has said it will bring the same proposals the president previously rejected, while the remaining political groupings have declared to put forward their own suggestions.

Last Friday President Duda discussed the judiciary reforms with Law and Justice leader Jaroslaw Kaczynski. According to the president's chief aide, Krzysztof Szczerski, both the president and the party leader were convinced the Polish justice system was in need of far-reaching reforms. (PAP)
