"Let's remember that big global firms (...) have not grown from large companies. They grew from small garage firms set up by friends", President Andrzej Duda said at a meeting of Polish start-up companies in the Presidential Palace on Tuesday.

"If we want to build our own innovative economy, if we want to manufacture highly-processed products in Poland in the future, ones that will place us at the level of the world's most developed countries, we need to invest in just these elements, and the most important of them is the human factor", the president said.

Andrzej Duda said that only one in ten start-up firms could turn out successful but stressed that this small percentage determined whether the economy was a developed one and whether the country was a European and world leader.

In this context, the president mentioned the need for the government to ensure favourable conditions for newly-formed companies. According to president it is necessary to join "start up" with "scale up", which is a programme of adjusting innovative concepts to appropriate scale.

The president also encouraged entrepreneurs to show investment courage, create start-ups and mobilise young people by offering them support and conditions for development. (PAP)
