President to attend Arraiolos group meeting on Monday

President Andrzej Duda on Monday will start a two-day visit to Germany where he will attend the 11th meeting of presidents of member states of the Arraiolos group in Erfurt and Eisenach on September 21-22.
Presidential Minister Krzysztof Szczerski responsible for international affairs has told reporters that the talks between the presidents of Austria, Finland, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Latvia, Poland, Portugal and Slovenia will focus on European cohesion, upbringing and education of young people and the migration crisis.
Szczerski said present-day Europe needs more dialogue among Europeans, among heads of state. "The more contacts at various levels, the more opportunities for real dialogue and getting to know others' opinions," stressed the minister.
"In the background is the question of how Europe can show its strength, not helplessness, how to make Europe less helpless against refugee, geopolitical, financial and economic crises," noted Szczerski.
On the side-lines of plenary sessions President Duda is expected to meet with the presidents of Slovenia, Finland, Italy and Latvia. "Latvia and Slovenia link areas of the Baltic, Adriatic and Black Seas..., Finland is an important partner in the debate on Eastern Europe geopolitics. Italy is an important European partner, especially in the context of the migration crisis," stressed the presidential minister.
Szczerski said that because the refugee situation varies in different EU countries, there is a need for a broad strategy covering the humanitarian crisis as well as the causes of the crisis.
"All European countries should join in drafting a strategy for solving the causes of the migration crisis. In this case everyone is in the same position. Everyone should have a similar share in solving the causes...," said the minister.
Informal meetings of presidents of the Arraiolos group countries were launched in Arraiolos, Portugal, in October 2003 at the invitation of the then President of Portugal, Jorge Sampaio. In 2013 the group held its meeting in Krakow, a year later in Braga. (PAP)
