Adam Glapinski – Advisor to the President

Born on 9 April 1950 in Warsaw. Adam Glapiński graduated from Liceum im. Stefana Batorego (Stefan Batory High School) and afterwards, in 1972, from the Economic and Social Faculty of Szkoła Główna Handlowa (Warsaw School of Economics), where, since 1974, he has been a lecturer.

 

He received a doctorate and a habilitation in economic sciences, and is currently an associate professor at Szkoła Główna Handlowa (Warsaw School of Economics) in the Management and Finance College. In 2003-2007 he was a professor at Wyższa Szkoła Ekonomii i Administracji (School of Economics and Administration) in Kielce. He was an active member of the Solidarity movement, even after the declaration of martial law. He is a member of Centrum Demokratyczne, Warszawski Komitet Obywatelski and Porozumienia Centrum (Democratic Centre, Warsaw Citizen Committee and Centre Agreement - PC). On behalf of PC he became the Minister of Construction and Spatial Planning in the Bielecki government and the Minister of Foreign Collaboration in the Olszewski government.

 

He was a Member of the Sejm of the Republic of Poland of the First Term, supported by PC, a member of the Commission for Economy, Budget and Finances, and a Senator of the Fourth Term of the Senate of the Republic of Poland, supported by ROP. In the Senate he was a deputy chairman of the National Economy Commission and a member of the Parliamentary Joint Commission for the European Union and Poland.

 

He has chaired the supervisory boards of the following institutions: Bank Rozwoju Eksportu S.A., Centralwings, and KGHM Polska Miedź S.A. In 2007-2008 he was CEO of Polkomtel S.A. He is a member of the chapter of the “Teraz Polska” (Now Poland) award, as well as of the International Joseph A. Schumpeter Society and the European Society for the History of Economic Thought.
