Małgorzata Bochenek - Secretary of State
Undersecretary of State since January 16, 2006. Secretary of State since December 4, 2007, in charge of the relations with state security services.
Graduate in Polish Studies at the Jagiellonian University in Kraków, she also studied psychology. At the beginning of the 1990s she worked for the „Gazeta Krakowska” daily where she was one of the originators of its international section and where she edited the „Świat w Krakowskiej” column (The World According to Krakowska). She attended a seminar on Polish-German relations organized for journalists by the Ebert Foundation in Bonn, and was involved in an educational program addressed to journalists on the operation of the Council of Europe and the European Union.
She received a fellowship granted to politicians and journalists by the United States Information Agency and a scholarship for journalists, politicians and members of social organizations awarded by The German Marshall Fund of the United States. As both of them were granted in 1992, she had an opportunity to watch the presidential campaign in the United States.
In 1993 she worked for the Department of Strategic Studies of the Ministry of National Defense. She prepared analyses of international situation. She attended a strategic and defense course offered by the Academy of National Defense.
Her next position was that of a publisher responsible for the substance of „Pytania o Polskę” (Questions about Poland), a TV program which was aired by the second channel of public TV and produced by „Prasa i Film.” She also co-authored the scrip of another program, „Czas wielkiej zmiany. Wywiady z premierami RP od 1989 do 1993” (Times of great change. Interviews with Prime Ministers holding the office in 1989-1993).
She also published articles about Poland’s foreign policy, i.a., in „Znak” monthly, the „Tygodnik Powszechny” weekly, the „Życie Warszawy” daily, the „Tygodnik Małopolska” weekly, or such periodicals as „Polityka Polska” and „Nowa Europa.”
She wrote articles about tourism, which is her hobby, illustrating them with her own photographs.
In 1999-2001, she worked for the Chancellery of the Chairman of the Council of Ministers (Prime Minister) as the advisor on security issues to secretaries of state and the Prime Minister.
She was Director of the Department of Publications and Public Relations at the State Foreign Investment Agency.
Her last job was at the Office of the Capital City of Warsaw as the Mayor’s advisor.
She has been married for 21 years, her 20 year old son is the third year student of ethnology at Warsaw University.
