Bożena Borys-Szopa – Undersecretary of State
Master of law, a graduate of the Faculty of Law and Administration of University of Silesia in Katowice and post-graduate studies in company management at the AGH University of Science and Technology in Cracow.
From 1998 to 2002, Mrs Borys-Szopa chaired the works of the Labour Protection Council in the Sejm, and as of 2002 has been acting as Deputy Chair of the Council. She is a member of the Polish Legislation Society and a winner of the award Pro Labore Securo which is granted by the Central Institute of Labour Protection in recognition of meritorious services in the area of protection of man in working environment. She was also distinguished with the Halina Krahelska Award of the National Labour Inspectorate for outstanding achievements in labour protection. Mrs Borys-Szopa is an author of many publications on the subject of workers’ entitlements and oversight of conditions of work in Poland and the EU. She is an active mediator in the dialogue between employers and employees and is included on the national list of mediators.
From 1991 on, Mrs Borys-Szopa has been a member of the Regional Board of Solidarity in Śląsko-Dąbrowski region, as of 2002 being the Deputy Chair and Secretary of the Board. Before, she worked as an expert for safety and health at work in the “Staszic” Mine and in the Cooperative PSS “Społem” in Katowice. From 1998 to 2006, she was also a member of the National Committee of NSZZ “Solidarność”.
From 15 March 2006 to 21 August 2008, she was chief labour inspector. In December 2007, she completed her inspector’s internship acquiring the title of the labour inspector.
As of 1 November 2008, Mrs Borys-Szopa has been a counsellor to the President of RP responsible for contacts with the public and with social partners, for labour law and safety and health at work.
On 21st September 2009 she was appointed Undersecretary of State at the Chancellery of the President.
