The Prime Minister of Moldova visits the Presidential Palace

On Thursday, 18th February, the President of Poland, Lech Kaczyński, met with the Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova, Vlad Filat, during his official visit to Warsaw.


During their meeting, the two politicians discussed the current situation in Moldova, paying particular attention to economic and constitutional reforms which the government of the country plans to introduce. Possible solutions to the Dniester conflict were also discussed. The Polish President said that the Republic of Moldova should retain its territorial integrity and independence.


The two politicians also discussed Polish-Moldovan relations and opportunities for their future development and reaffirmed their wish to work together as closely as possible in political, economic and cultural spheres.  The President of Poland also said that he supports the idea of aiding Moldova financially with the use of both Polish and foreign money.


Relations between Moldova and the European Union were discussed at the meeting, especially the country’s role in the Eastern Partnership. The Polish President confirmed that he supports the European aspirations of Moldova and added that the public administration of the country should be provided with technical support and specialist advice on meeting the standards of the European Union. He expressly emphasized that the door to the EU is open for Moldova and other countries of Central-Eastern Europe.
