A joint press conference of the President and the Prime Minister of the Republic of Poland

On 7 December 2005, immediately after a meeting between the President of the Republic of Poland, Aleksander Kwaśniewski, and the Prime Minister, Kazimierz Marcinkiewicz, devoted to Poland’s position on the EU budget proposal for 2007-2013, a joint press conference of the President and the Prime Minister was held.

In the course of the press conference, the President of the Republic of Poland and the Prime Minister signed an Appeal to the EU Heads of State and Government.

The Appeal reads as follows:

Appeal to the EU Heads of State and Government

The 2004 European Union enlargement was our common success. Today Europe needs further positive measures and plans.
We call upon the EU Heads of State and Government to adopt a budget for 2007-2013 that will uphold the solidarity principle and help the new Member States to bridge the existing civilization gap.
We call upon the States with whom Poland joined the European Union for co-operation and for speaking with one voice in a battle for a strong Europe guided by the principle of solidarity.
Europe needs a good budget. Europe needs lasting co-operation. Europe needs solidarity.
