President opens 72nd International Fair in Poznan

On June 12th, 2000, President of the Republic of Poland opened the 72nd International Fair in Poznan of Industrial Technologies and Investment Goods, as well as the 1st International Fair of Machines, Tools and Construction Equipment, BUMASZ 2000. The ceremony was attended, among others, by Prince of Austria Felipe de Bornon, Deputy Prime Minister and Economy Minister Janusz Steinhoff, Minister of Science and Chairman of the Scientific Research Committee Andrzej Wiszniewski, representatives of the Wielkopolska province authorities, city fathers, local and economic governments, parliamentarians, diplomatic corps, as well as by representatives of Belarus, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Spain, Luxembourg and Ukraine. Opening the 72nd International Fair In Poznan, President Kwasniewski said: For nearly 80 years, the Poznan Fair has been called Poland`s "window to the world." Today, the world stands open to us, and Poland belongs to the world`s most important trade and economic organisations. But the role played by the Poznan Fair has little changed. Poznan is still Poland`s most important exhibition window, the main venue of promoting Poland`s economy and meetings of Polish and foreign business. This bears evidence to the fair still being a successful venture, effectively responding to the changing needs of producers and merchants. This also testifies well about people in charge of the fair: managers who keep on updating the fair, boldly using the latest achievements in marketing. This year`s fair has particular guests. I would like to express my great joy at Spain presenting its national exposition. A country dear to many Poles. A country whose road to economic success is deemed by many of us as a worthy example to follow. We have the honour of hosting at the fair His Highness Prince of Austria Felipe de Borbon, heir to the throne of the Kingdom of Spain. We can glance over the offer, attended by 142 leading Spanish firms. It is a great opportunity to better acquaint with one another, and establish new commercial bonds. I am convinced that the fair will make for the development of Polish-Spanish relations. With joy I welcome our Estonian friends and their special exposition. I welcome all exhibitors.
